Yoga for Travel and Jet Lag

In the above video, the yoga expert shows how to fight jet lag after traveling through yoga poses.

  1. Bitilasana Marjaryasana (Sanskrit: Bitila means cow, and Marjari means cat) or the Cat cow pose
  2. Urdhva Mukha Pasasana (Sanskrit: Urdhva means upwards, Mukha means face, and Pasa means noose) or the Thread the Needle pose
  3. Adho Mukha Shvanasana (Sanskrit: Adho means downwards, Mukha means face, and Shavna means dog) or the Downward Facing Dog pose
  4. Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Sanskrit: Eka means one, Pada means foot, Raj means king, and Kapota means pigeon) or the Pigeon pose
  5. Ardha Matsyendrasana (Sanskrit: Ardha means half, Matsyendra means Lord of fishes) of the Half Spinal Twist pose. Watch the video for three additional poses

Eka Pada Rajakapotasana or the Pigeon pose is an outstanding yoga to open the hips. Eka Pada Rajakapotasana is from the Ashtanga (Sanskrit: Ashta means eight and Anga means limbs) yogic tradition, is a modern yoga exercise. A similar pose is Kapotasana (Sanskrit: Kapota means pigeon) that is first seen in 19th century Sritattvanidhi. Further, BKS Iyengar’s Light on Yoga (1966) also describes the Kapotasana yoga pose.
