Yoga for High Blood Pressure

The above video describes a sequence of five yoga poses that may help manage hypertension or high blood pressure.

  1. Anuloma Viloma or Alternate Nostril Breathing technique.
  2. Bharmri (Sanskrit: Bhamri means a bee that makes a buzzing sound) or Buzzing Bee Sound breathing technique.
  3. Vajrasana (Sanskrit: Vajra means weapon) or the Thunderbolt pose.
  4. Baddhakonasana (Sanskrit: Baddha means locked and Kona means corner or angle) or the Butterfly or Bound Angle pose.
  5. Janusirsasana (Sanskrit: Janu means knee and Shirsa means head) or Head-to-Knee yoga pose.

References to Janusirsasana yoga posture are more modern, first seen in Yoga Makaranda (1934), while the breathing techniques like Anuloma Viloma first appeared in the classic 15th-century treatise The Haṭha Yoga Pradipika.
